Recycled: Tagging a black bear in the wild!

One year ago this week, I had the privilege of going on a bear tagging event with the MassWildlife staff. Every year, Commissioner Griffin and her talented staff of biologists venture out into the woods to track the movement of the black bear population in Massachusetts. Their goal is to better understand their eating, mating, and migratory habits.

Although it can be a quite scary experience – particularly the tranquilizing of the mother bear – these outings serve an important role in protecting the overall health of these beautiful animals.

Here’s a quick video that I put together about the trip. For more information, visit the MassWildlife black bear website.
